Derby Police Offer Back To School Safety Reminders
The Derby Police Department reminds everyone to slow down and stay alert, especially in school zones, at crosswalks and around school buses.
DERBY, CT — As students return to school this week, the Derby Police Department has released a list of back to school safety tips for residents to follow.
In a Facebook post, police reminded residents to slow down and stay alert, "especially in school zones, at crosswalks and around school buses."
Police also provided the following back to school safety tips:

- Watch for children walking or biking to school.
- Stop for school buses when lights are flashing; the penalty for passing a stopped school bus is $475.
- Give yourself extra travel time during drop off and pick up hours.
"Let's all work together to make sure all of our students have a safe start to the school year," police wrote on Facebook.
