Derby Youth Service Bureau To Host Medication Take Back Day Event
The Derby Youth Service Bureau will host a medication take back day in collaboration with police and the Naugatuck Valley Health District.
DERBY, CT — The Derby Youth Service Bureau will host a medication take back day event this weekend in collaboration with the Derby Police Department and the Naugatuck Valley Health District.
According to a news release provided by the Youth Services Bureau, the drive through and drop off event will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bradley School, located on David Humphreys Road, and is part of the National Medication Take Back Day initiative.
In response to "the ongoing public health crisis and the alarming rise in overdose deaths across the country," this initiative aims to safely collect unused and unwanted prescription drugs, according to the release.

"By preventing these medications from falling into the wrong hands, we can help reduce the risk of misuse, addiction and the transition to dangerous illicit drugs, many of which are often laced with deadly substances such as fentanyl," the release reads.
The following items are accepted during the event:

- Over-the-counter medications.
- Prescription medications.
- Medication samples.
- Medications for household pets.
- Medicated lotions or ointments.
- Vape devices (battery must be removed).
The following items are not accepted:
- Needles or other "sharps."
- Hazardous waste.
- Thermometers.
- Personal care products (shampoo, etc.)
"Medication Take Back Day is a crucial step in our efforts to combat the opioid crisis and prevent overdose tragedies in our community," the release reads. "We encourage everyone to participate in this important initiative and help make a positive impact on public health and safety."
