DERBY, CT — Mayor Joseph DiMartino announced Wednesday his candidacy for reelection as mayor of the city of Derby.

DiMartino, a Democrat, will formally kick off his campaign with a public announcement at The Quail & Ale Neighborhood Pub in Derby on March 1 at 1 p.m., according to a news release.

"We have only begun to turn this city around," DiMartino said in a news release. "When I first became mayor, we inherited a $2 million deficit, the state was knocking on our door, and we bounced checks when trying to pay our vendors. Our financial situation was in disarray. Our first order of business was to roll up our sleeves and start the slow process of rebuilding the city's finances. We made tough decisions, and now, just over a year later, the deficit has been eliminated, the state is satisfied with our progress, and we are ready to focus on economic development."

This year marks the 350th anniversary of the city of Derby, and the community looks forward to celebrating this historic milestone.

He and his wife, Lori, have raised four daughters: Karissa, Jordyn, Lacey, and Kaelyn. They are also proud grandparents to two grandchildren, Joey and Jaxson, with another on the way, according to the release.

DiMartino said he looks forward to connecting with the community on the campaign trail toward Election Day in November.
