Fire Destroys Shelton Home, Cat Rescued From Blaze

SHELTON, CT — A Shelton home is uninhabitable following a Saturday morning fire, according to officials.
The Shelton Fire Department responded to a home on Maler Avenue around 9:40 a.m. after they were alerted about a possible house fire. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the front door and garage.
Crew members were met with heavy fire conditions in the basement and heat and smoke on the first floor of the home. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames in about 15 minutes, officials said.

As fire crews searched the home, they found a cat in the basement and reunited it with the homeowner. The cat was conscious and breathing, officials said.
The sole occupant of the home escaped the blaze without injury.
