Friday, June 17: Thunder, Veggies, Zumba Love

TGIF! Have any good plans for the weekend?

  1. Ready for rain? How about another storm? The National Weather Service predicts the following for today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 74. South wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch possible. At night, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 7 .p,m, then scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. South wind between 5 and 8 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.   2. Today is National Eat Your Vegetables Day! Did you know that Shelton has its very own farmers' market? It's located on Canal Street, in the free shopping parking lot directly across from the war memorial monuments at the Riverwalk. It is open every Saturday, rain or shine, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. from mid-July to Mid-October. For a list of other farms, click here!
  3. is being held from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club on 28 Howard Ave. in Ansonia. Various Zumba instructors from Fairfield County will be directing the dance workshop and all proceeds benefit Amped for Education, a non-profit organization seeking to expand education in rural areas of Nicaragua. The class is $20 and the BBQ is $10. Come spread the Zumba love!
  4. Get ready for a this weekend. It's being held today, tomorrow and Sunday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at 269 Huntington St. Stuff for sale includes: kitchen items, homegoods items, holiday ttems, Disney toys and collectibles, furniture, clothes and so much more. Please park in the driveway or on the grass. Do not park on the street.
  5. An early Happy Birthday to Shelton natives Kristen Martin and Krysten Manke, who both turn 23 years old, and Gina Salomoni, who turns 27 years old tomorrow, June 18. These three lovely ladies share a birthday with Country singer Blake Shelton, movie critic Roger Ebert and Beatles band member Paul McCartney.
