Home 'Not Habitable' After Fire Breaks Out In Shelton: FD

Fire officials said crews from Derby, Trumbull, Monroe and Oxford were called in to assist after a fire broke out at a Shelton home.

SHELTON, CT — A Shelton home was left uninhabitable following a house fire Tuesday evening on Whitewood Drive, according to fire officials.

In a news release, fire officials said the department received a report of a structure fire just before 6 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the back of the house, officials said.

Due to the area being isolated from fire hydrants, a "tanker strike team" was requested to bring in tankers from Monroe, Oxford and Seymour.

Mutual aid was also requested from fire companies in Trumbull and Derby to provide station coverage along with Pine Rock Park Co. 4, however they were later brought in to help suppress and overhaul the fire at the home, officials said.

Ansonia and Trumbull Center fire companies were then brought into the city to provide station coverage as firefighters continued working to control the fire, officials said.

The fire was extinguished within approximately 45 minutes and crews began an extensive overhaul process, officials said.

No injuries were reported, however the home is currently "not habitable," officials said.

"Our thanks to all of the mutual aid companies and chiefs that assisted our department during this incident," fire officials said in a news release.
