Daycare Center Proposed for Long Hill Cross Road

If approved, a daycare/after-school center could open in a home at 48 Long Hill Cross Road.

Shelton Architect John Ruffalo III represented Laura Lipinski, who wants to open the Wonder Years Learning Center in a home. The home would not be used as a residence, the applicant said.

The business would have a fenced-in play area for children, who will be organized based on their age group. There would be eight or nine employees and it would take children up to age 10.

The hours would be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Lipinski said the business, which is on Rocky Rest Road right now, uses a "holistic and nature-based curriculum."

At her current center last year, "they have worked toward Nature
Explore Certification which is a program offered through the Arbor Day Society," she said at the Planning and Zoning public hearing.

Resident Debra Ullrich, who runs a daycare near the proposal site, had many questions, including how the children would be supervised outside.

She urged the commission to continue the hearing, which the board ultimately did.
