Large Dumpster Catches Fire In Shelton: FD

Fire officials said crews extinguished a fire that broke out in a 30-yard dumpster against a building in Shelton.

SHELTON, CT — Crews extinguished a fire that broke out inside a dumpster against a building Wednesday morning on Howe Avenue, according to fire officials.

In a news release, fire officials said crews received a report around 7:30 a.m. of a structure fire, which was soon declared a working fire by the fire marshal.

Firefighters determined the blaze had originated in a 30-yard dumpster against the building, and crews quickly began suppression efforts as firefighters entered the building to check for extension, officials said.

Crews determined the fire had not extended into the building, however the sprinkler system had deployed. Aerial apparatus was also requested to check the roof for additional fire, which was also cleared, officials said.

Due to the age of the building and its proximity to an elderly housing apartment building, crews from Derby were brought in to assist, officials said.

Huntington Company 3 was put on standby for additional calls and Monroe firefighters were brought in to cover White Hills Company 5, according to fire officials.

Echo Hose Ambulance stood by in the event of injury while Shelton police provided traffic control, officials said.

Officials said all buildings in the area are habitable and the fire marshal's office is currently investigating the cause of the blaze.

Fire officials also thanked a Badger Infrastructure Solutions employee for "attempting to keep the fire from extending into the building by using a high pressure washer from his truck."
