Teams from Shelton, Trumbull, Orange, Monroe, Danbury, New Canaan and Westport will be competing.

According to the competition's Website, the Shelton FLL Qualifying Event (formerly known as the Bridgeport FLL Qualifying Event) was founded in 2004 as part of a re-organization of the FIRST® Connecticut State Tournament structure.

"FIRST®, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology is a international non-profit education foundation located in Manchester, N.H., with a mission to increase recognition of science and technology and inspire technological careers for young people," it said.

Teams will also attend similar events Saturday at other venues, including at Greenwich Academy in Greenwich.

To make State Championship more competitive and to provide a broader range of experiences for the state’s teams, six qualifying events spread over two weekends prior to the Championship were created.
