Local High School Students Win DAR Good Citizen Award
These students consistently display the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism as DAR Good Citizens
The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Inc. is proud to announce the winners of the 2024 DAR Good Citizen Awards and Scholarship Contest from four area high schools.
- Sophia Kostour - Shelton High School
- Ariq Rahman - Masuk High School, Monroe
- Quinlan Gray - Derby High School
- Isabella Cabral - Trumbull High School
The award ceremony, attended by SRH-MS Chapter members, students, and families, took place at the Huntington Congregational Church Fellowship Hall, 19 Church St., Shelton on March 25, 2025.
DAR Good Citizen Committee Co-Chair Marion Osborne presented the awards saying “Each of these students was chosen by his or her high school as consistently displaying the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their curricular and extracurricular activities. The Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman, NSDAR Chapter applauds these seniors for their good citizen efforts.” Each of these outstanding Good Citizen winners received a certificate, a Good Citizen pin, and a monetary award.

Mrs. Osborne also stated the DAR provides a Scholarship Essay contest which the Good Citizen students can choose to participate in and which is judged at the chapter, state, and national level. The essay topic was “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving it”. Isabella Cabral, Trumbull High School, was our chapter winner and her essay was advanced to the State competition.
The DAR is a non-profit women’s service organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism. Any woman over 18 who can prove lineal descent to an ancestor who served in the American Revolution is a prospective member.
