SHELTON, CT — A Shelton man accused of killing a family member's kitten that was "annoying him" was arrested Friday, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said a family member of Krzystof Bakota, 47, of Shelton, told officers she left her kitten in Bakota's care while she was away.

Bakota told the family member the kitten went missing, however the kitten was later found dead in the home's backyard by another family member, Kozlowsky said.

According to Kozlowsky, Bakota admitted to family members he killed the kitten. He also told another family member the kitten was annoying him, so he threw the animal against a table, then threw it off a back deck.

The dead kitten was taken to the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory at the University of Connecticut for an autopsy.

The report stated in part that the kitten had multiple skull fractures with marked hemorrhage, Kozlowsky said.

The kitten's cause of death was due to trauma to the left body wall and pulmonary hemorrhage, according to Kozlowsky.

Kozlowsky also noted there was evidence of blunt force trauma, and it was "highly improbable that the kitten was killed by another animal."

Bakota was charged with first-degree malicious killing of an animal. He was held on a $25,000 bond and arraigned in court Friday morning, according to Kozlowsky.
