Man Rescued From River In Shelton After Jumping From Boat: DEEP

DEEP officials said a man was rescued from the Housatonic River in Shelton after he jumped from a boat and began struggling in the water.

SHELTON, CT — A man was rescued from the Housatonic River in Shelton over the weekend after he jumped from a boat and began struggling in the water, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

In an email Tuesday, DEEP spokesperson James Fowler said the department's EnCon Police division was called to the Housatonic River near Wooster Island in Shelton on Sunday after a man jumped from a boat and tried to swim back to shore.

According to Fowler, the man began struggling in the water and went under before being rescued by a person passing by in a personal watercraft.

The man was brought to shore and treated by EMS crews, then taken to Griffin Hospital in stable condition, Fowler said.

EnCon Police interviewed the man at the hospital and the incident has been cleared, according to Fowler.
