Man Seriously Injured In Fiery Shelton Crash: State Police
State police said a Fairfield man was seriously injured after his car crashed into a metal guardrail and caught fire on Route 8 in Shelton.
SHELTON, CT — A Fairfield man was seriously injured Saturday after his vehicle crashed into a metal guardrail and caught fire on Route 8 in Shelton, according to Connecticut State Police.
In an accident information summary, state police said troopers from Troop I - Bethany were called to the area of Exit 9 on Route 8 north around 12:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a single-vehicle crash.
According to state police, a Fairfield man was driving a BMW M5 northbound when the vehicle left the right lane and departed the roadway, then hit a metal beam guardrail past the right shoulder and became engulfed in flames.

The vehicle then redirected left across all lanes and hit a metal beam guardrail in the median of the road, according to state police.
The driver "suffered traumatic lower leg injuries" and tourniquets were applied by responding troopers, state police said.

The driver was then taken to a hospital "for serious injuries sustained," according to state police.
According to state police, 18 metal beam guardrail posts and approximately 100 feet of guardrail were damaged in the crash.
