Opening Date Announced For New Trader Joe's Grocery Store In Shelton

SHELTON, CT — Trader Joe's is set to open its newest store at the Fountain Square Shopping Plaza in Shelton next month, with a planned ribbon cutting ceremony event planned to take place right before the doors open.

The company announced in a news release Thursday the new store will officially open for business Monday at 9 a.m. at 801 Bridgeport Avenue.

Moments before the doors open, the store will hold a brief ribbon cutting ceremony with Store Captain Darlene LaTorre and Trader Joe's crew members on hand to welcome Shelton customers.

According to Trader Joe's, the Shelton store hired more than 40 new crew members from surrounding areas and transferred in others from nearby Trader Joe's stores.

Additionally, the new Shelton store will donate 100 percent of products that go unsold but remain fit to enjoy to a range of non-profit community-based organizations seven days a week through Trader Joe's longstanding Neighborhood Shares Program, according to the company.

The Bridgeport Avenue store is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Plans for the new Shelton store were officially approved by the city's Planning and Zoning Commission in early January following a discussion of the revised final site plans for the business.

Trader Joe's first confirmed to Patch in November 2024 that plans were in the works to open a new store somewhere in Shelton.

In addition to Shelton, Trader Joe's currently operates ten Connecticut stores in Danbury, Darien, Fairfield, Glastonbury, Hamden, Manchester, Orange, Stamford, West Hartford and Westport.
