Plans Submitted To Renovate Shelton Property To New Colony Grill Pizzeria

Plans submitted to the city's Planning and Zoning Department call for renovating a former Burger King space to a Colony Grill restaurant.

SHELTON, CT — Plans recently submitted to the city's Planning and Zoning Department call for a former Burger King restaurant space in Shelton to be renovated to a new Colony Grill pizzeria.

The plans, available on the city's website, call for the property at 902 Bridgeport Avenue to be renovated to a Colony restaurant.

The iconic pizzeria, famous for its hot oil bar-style pizzas, currently operates locations in Stamford, Norwalk, Fairfield and Milford, as well as restaurants in New York, Florida, Virginia and Maryland.

The ultra-thin crust pizza was first served at the chain's Stamford restaurant when it opened in 1935.

The Connecticut Post reports the property's owner, UB Shelton Square, is seeking a minor modification to the Planned Development District governing the site to allow for renovations for the new Colony restaurant.

The Burger King restaurant that previously occupied the space closed earlier this week, the Connecticut Post reports.

The property is located in the Shelton Square Shopping Center.

Requests for comment from Colony and UB Shelton Square were not immediately returned Thursday.

The submitted plans would need to be discussed and voted on by the city's Planning and Zoning Commission at a future meeting.

The commission's next regular meeting is currently scheduled for July 9, according to the city's calendar.

The closure of the Burger King restaurant comes just as another iconic fast food chain, McDonald's, officially opened to the public on Tuesday, more than a year after plans for the business were first submitted to the city.
