Matthew George Pelham, 19, of Jewett Street, Ansonia, is charged with assaulting a police officer, interfering with an officer and second-degree failure to appear.
Police said officers were investigating a report of suspicious activity on Nov. 18. There, they allegedly saw Pelham and checked his background.
Officers discovered there was a warrant for Pelham's arrest, but he refused to exit his vehicle and had to be removed, police said.
He then took a swing at an officer and wrestled with him, and later refused to exit the police cruiser, according to police. He was also uncooperative in booking, police added.
Pelham's bonds were set at $10,000 and $2,500 for appearances in Derby Superior Court.
