SHELTON, CT — Police have identified a 24-year-old man killed in a fiery crash late Sunday night in Shelton, according to a new report.

WTNH News 8 reported Wednesday afternoon police identified the man as Mauricio Sierra Zapata, 24, of Shelton.

Police Det. Christopher Nugent previously said Shelton police, fire and EMS officers responded to a report of a car on fire at the intersection of Commerce and Research drives around 11:30 p.m.

First responders pulled a man from the car and took him to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to Nugent.

The Shelton Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the incident, Nugent said.
