Police Make Domestic Arrest After Pursuit
The following information comes from Lt. Robert Kozlowsky of the Shelton Police Dept. It does not indicate convictions.
On May 24 at approximately 10:00 p.m., responded to a reported domestic violence dispute that was physical. Police were also told that the male suspect stated he was going to fight with the police. Upon arrival officers spoke with the female victim who stated that the male, 31 year old Robert O’Brien of Sagamore Rd in Shelton, had left the residence prior to the arrival of the officers. The victim told officers that O’Brien became upset when he got home and that he had strangled her twice during the evening. Officers began checking the surrounding streets and located the vehicle that was registered to O’Brien driving in the area.
An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the O’Brien refused to pull over. O’Brien then struck another vehicle with his vehicle, but did not stop. The officer followed the vehicle to O’Brien’s residence. O’Brien refused to get out of his vehicle and he began to fight with officers when they attempted to physically remove him from the vehicle. An officer deployed his taser, but O’Brien began to run away and then take an aggressive stance at the officers. K-9 Officer Nugent then deployed his K-9 Jager. O’Brien still resisted, but eventually complied and he was placed under arrest.
O’Brien was charged with the following:

- 2 counts of third degree assault
- 2 counts of disorderly conduct,
- 2 counts of second degree strangulation,
- Reckless driving,
- Failure to bring a motor vehicle to a stop when signaled,
- Interfering with an officer,
- Evading,
- Operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
O’Brien was held on a $50,000 bond and brought to Derby Court today for arraignment.
