Popular Supermarket Chain To Close Shelton Store This Month

A supermarket chain plans to close its Shelton store location later this month, a spokesperson has confirmed.

SHELTON, CT — Adams Hometown Market is set to close its Shelton store location later this month, according to a spokesperson.

A spokesperson for Bozzuto's Inc., a Cheshire-based wholesale distributor that owns the Adams Hometown Market chain, confirmed to Patch on Wednesday the Shelton store is currently planned to close on about Oct. 10.

Further details regarding the store's closure were not immediately available Wednesday, according to the spokesperson.

Employees at the Shelton store declined to comment Wednesday on the possible closure.

Located on Leavenworth Road, the Shelton store is currently open every day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the store's website.

In addition to Shelton, Adams Hometown Market operates stores in Milford, East Lyme, Lisbon, Deep River, Canterbury, Portland, Terryville, Thomaston and Watertown, as well as various locations in New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and Maine.

The Shelton store is not currently listed under the locations section of the chain's website.

The chain joins a growing list of grocery stores in Connecticut that have either recently closed or announced plans to close in the near future.

An Acme Market on W. Putnam Avenue in Greenwich is slated to close later this month, according to a notice sent to the state in August.

Geissler's Supermarket in South Windsor announced in July plans to close later that month after nearly four decades at the Sullivan Avenue Plaza.

The owners of Robert's Food Center in Madison also announced back in May plans to close after more than 40 years of operation.

Last year, five Stop and Shop grocery stores in Ansonia, Torrington, Stamford, Milford and Danbury closed their doors for good around late October.
