Pregnant Driver Extricated From Vehicle In Shelton Crash: FD

Two children also were rescued from the one-car crash, which occurred earlier this week on Route 8 southbound.

SHELTON, CT — A pregnant driver and two children were extricated from a vehicle Monday morning following a one-car crash southbound on Route 8 near Exit 13 in Shelton, according to fire officials.

The driver, whose identity was not released, and the children were taken to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment after the 7:15 a.m. crash.

Fire officials said the driver and occupants were "heavily pinned inside" of the vehicle, which came to rest in a wooded area on the side of the thruway. Twelve firefighters were needed for the rescue.

"Crews from Squad 1 and Rescue 30 stabilized the vehicle prior to conducting a roof and door removal to free the patient," fire officials said in a statement. "As members were extricating the trapped operator, 2 pediatric patients were packaged and transported to a local trauma facility by Echo Hose Ambulance."
