Several Purse Thefts Reported At Derby Shopping Plaza: Police

Police said the thefts occurred while shoppers were loading groceries, and the suspects arrived in stolen vehicles wearing full face masks.

DERBY, CT — Police said Wednesday they are investigating several recent purse thefts reported at a Derby shopping plaza.

In a news release, police said the thefts occurred while shoppers were loading groceries at a shopping plaza on New Haven Avenue.

According to police, the suspects in the thefts "are arriving in stolen vehicles and wearing full face masks."

Police also asked residents to take the following precautions:

  • Lock your car – Always secure your vehicle, even for quick stops.
  • Hide your valuables – Keep purses, backpacks, and other items out of sight.
  • Stay alert – Pay attention to your surroundings, especially in parking lots and public areas.
  • Report suspicious activity – Note the location, suspect description, and direction of travel, then call the Derby Police Department immediately.
