Shelton Breast Surgeon Accepts Award from American Cancer Society
Fairfield County Medical Association Receives Honor; Past President Dr. Camelia Lawrence Speaks on Behalf of Physicians' Organization
The Fairfield County Medical Association (FCMA) was honored as this year’s Community Honoree by the American Cancer Society at a special event hosted at Maserati of Westport.
In recognizing FCMA, Danielle Schuka of the American Cancer Society highlighted the Association’s ongoing collaboration and deeper commitment to the community. She noted that FCMA’s members are not only strong partners in the fight against cancer, but also “the backbone of our healthcare systems and the front lines in identifying, diagnosing, and treating breast cancer.”
Accepting the award on behalf of FCMA was Dr. Camelia Lawrence of Shelton, a breast surgeon with Hartford HealthCare and past president of the Association. Dr. Lawrence has long been a leader in advancing breast cancer care and championing community initiatives that support patients and their families.

John Brannelly, Executive Director of FCMA, headquarted in Shelton, expressed appreciation for the recognition and praised the American Cancer Society’s efforts: “The American Cancer Society’s work through programs like Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has made an immeasurable difference for patients, survivors, and families here in Fairfield County. We are proud to stand alongside ACS in this mission and look forward to continuing our collaboration—including supporting their Making Strides event at Sherwood Island on Sunday, October 19, 2025.”
The honor reflects the shared mission of FCMA and the American Cancer Society to improve education, expand awareness, and strengthen resources that benefit patients across Fairfield County and beyond.
