Shelton Closing Roads for Aug. 18 Race

About 500 runners and walkers will take to the streets of Huntington for the fourth annual 10K and 5K Sunset Run/1-mile walk on Sunday.

It starts at 40 Huntington St.

"Several streets in the Huntington section will be temporarily closed to accommodate the people involved in the event.  The race will begin at Huntington Street and continue onto Isinglass Rd, Nichols Ave and ending at Church St. The 5K will cut across Blueberry Lane to Nichols Ave.," said Lt. Robert Kozlowsky, police spokesman.

"At 4:15 pm the entire race route will be closed to all traffic except for emergency vehicles. The race route will remain closed, until the last runner has passed through a particular section or roadway of the route. The race is being run in reverse this year to help alleviate traffic.

"The entire roadway will be re-opening no later than 6:30 p.m. During the closing ceremonies, traffic around the Huntington Green will be reduced to one lane to allow safe traffic control and pedestrian crossing," he said.

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes during the time period of the race. Any questions should be directed to the Shelton Police Traffic Unit.
