
A Bridgeport man is accused of assaulting and dragging a woman out of a party in Shelton in March.
Maquese Edward Heyward, 18, of Burnham Street, Bridgeport, is charged with second-degree assault, first-degree strangulation and first-degree unlawful restraint.
Police said Heyward was arguing with another man at a party when the alleged victim tried to intervene. Heyward then allegedly punched her in the face and choked her with his hands before dragging her into a car.
Someone then drove the car to another site. When the suspect fell asleep, another person drove the woman home.
She reported the incident March 16 to Shelton Police and Heyward was arrested by warrant Aug. 13.
Heyward is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond for an Aug. 29 appearance in Derby Superior Court.
