Regina Mae Crews, 44, of Oak Street, Derby, is charged with sixth-degree larceny.
Police said Crews took jeans, a sweater and a jacket, total value $241. She allegedly entered a Bridgeport Avenue store with an empty purse and tried to walk out with a full one.
She is free on a written promise to appear in Derby Superior Court.
