Shelton-Derby 2023 Election Voter Guide: Candidates, Polling Places
Here's everything you need to know concerning the 2023 Shelton-Derby local elections, including candidates, polling places and voting hours.

SHELTON-DERBY, CT — On Nov. 7, Shelton and Derby residents cast their votes for several key municipal positions.
Contested races include: mayor, the Board of Aldermen and the Board of Education.
Polls in Connecticut are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. You can use the Secretary of State’s website to find your polling place. Voters who are in line by 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Connecticut also allows for Election Day registration at designated centers in each town. People must be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote using Election Day registration.
To receive your absentee ballot, complete and sign an application and return it to your Town Clerk, or you can request an absentee ballot online.

Mayor and Treasurer
In Shelton, Mayor Mark Lauretti, a Republican, is running for reelection against Democratic challenger David Eldridge. Raymond O'Leary, a Republican, is running unopposed for city treasurer.
In Derby, Mayor Richard Dziekan is on the ballot as a petitioning candidate. Joseph DiMartino is the Democratic candidate, Gino DiGiovanni Jr. is the Republican candidate and Sharlene McEvoy is also a petitioning candidate.
For treasurer, the Democratic candidate is Maria Conlon and the Republican candidate is Heidi DiGiovanni.
Board of Apportionment and Taxation
For the Board of Apportionment and Taxation, you'll vote for up to six people. Democratic candidates include: Joseph Knapik, Greta Jacobsen and Wayne Bragg. Republican candidates are John Belden Jr., Joanna Carloni and John Boyko.
In Derby, you'll vote for up to ten people. The Democratic candidates are: Tina Parelli-Silkoff, Jennifer Desroches, Colleen Germain-Ezzo, Kristen Mancini-Wright, Michael Gray and Bhamini Patel. The Republican candidates are: Jose Rivera, Isa Simmons-Derby, Robert Miller Jr., Mark Johnson, Laura Wabno and Ashley Simon.
Board of Education
For the Shelton Board of Education, you'll vote for up to nine people but not more than five from one party can be elected. Democratic candidates include: Kate Kutash, Bette Lynn Paez, Joan Littlefield, Patricia Moonan and Lorraine Rossner. Republican candidates are Jim Orazietti, Jason Neves, Sharon Herman, Anthony Smeraglino, Amy Romano, Jim Feehan, Richard O'Connor, Carl Rizzo and Michael Weber.
In Derby, you'll vote for up to nine people. The Democratic candidates are: Kenneth Marcucio Sr., Daniel Foley Jr., Jim Gildea, Kimberly Tovar, Jennifer Lewis-Caruso and Melissa Mongillo. The Republican candidates are: John Campoli, Karla Malerba, John DeCarlo III, Laura Harris, Janine Netto and Rebecca O'Hara.
Board of Aldermen (Shelton)
For the Board of Aldermen, you'll vote for up to two people per Ward.
In Ward 1, the Democratic candidates are: Nathan Diur and Frank Donato. The Republican candidates are: Porter McKinnon and Anthony Simonetti.
In Ward 2, the Democratic candidates are: Kevin Kosty and Bryan Lizotte. The Republican candidates are: Eric McPherson and Benjamin Perry Jr.
In Ward 3, the Democratic candidates are: Steven Guralnick and Jose Goncalves. The Republican candidates are: John Anglace Jr. and Cris Balamaci.
In Ward 4, the Democratic candidates are: Mandy Kilmartin and Ludwig Spinelli. The Republican candidates are: Lorenzo Durante and Bernard Simons Jr.
Board of Aldermen and Alderwomen (Derby)
For the Board of Aldermen and Alderwomen, you'll vote for up to three people.
In Voting Districts 01-01 and 02-01, the Democratic candidates are: Amy Pettinicchi, Sarah Widomski and Arthur Newberg. The Republican candidates are: Sam Pollastro, Rich DiCarlo and Judy Szewczyk.
In Voting District 01-02, the Democratic candidates are: George Kurtyka, Ronald Sill and Jessica Barrios-Perez. The Republican candidates are: Julian Campoli, Anthony Mullin and Nick DiGiovanni.
In Voting District 02-03, the Democratic candidates are: David Chevarella, Robert Hyder and Robin Falcioni-Smith. The Republican candidates are: Michael Alberta, Matthew Beck and Ann Kimball.
Planning and Zoning (Shelton)
For the Planning and Zoning Commission, you'll vote for up to three people. Democratic candidates are: Elaine Matto, Thomas Harbinson and Nancy Dickal. Republican candidates are Virginia Harger and Charles Kelly III.
For Planning and Zoning Commission alternates, you'll vote for up to two people. Matt McGee is the Democratic candidate and Robert Cristiano is the Republican candidate.
Library Board of Directors (Shelton)
For the Library Board of Directors, you'll vote for up to two people. Democrat David Gioiello Jr. and Republican James Geissler are the candidates.
Additionally, Shelton residents will vote "yes" or "no" on the following question: "Shall the Charter of the City of Shelton be revised in accordance with the report and recommendations of the Charter Revision Commission?"
Constable (Derby)
For constable, "Owney" Malerba Jr. is the Democratic candidate and Carl Malerba Sr. is the Republican candidate.
