Shelton-Derby Election Results 2022: Rochelle, Kelly Projected Winners

Thousands of Shelton and Derby residents have cast their votes in the 2022 state and federal election in a number of key races.

SHELTON-DERBY, CT — A number of candidates have declared victory in several key federal, state and local state representative races across Shelton and Derby, however official vote totals have not yet been released.

In the race for the 114th House District seat, Democrat Mary Welander declared victory over Republican Daniel Cowan in a Facebook post. Final vote numbers have not yet been released.

"It's official," Welander said on Facebook. "Thank you so much to everyone who entrusted me with their vote and support and who helped me with every part of the campaign. I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve this amazing district!"

In the race of the 21st State Senate District, Democrat Christopher Green conceded to Republican Kevin Kelly in a Facebook post. Final vote numbers have not yet been released.

"This was a great first run for office that would not have been possible without the support of so many people across the district," Green said on Facebook. "Thank you to everyone for your encouragement, for your contributions, support and for your votes. We did not win, and that is disappointing. Congratulations to Kevin Kelly as our continuing state senator. I hope he will work hard to represent everyone in the district."

Connecticut Dems announced on Twitter that Kara Rochelle was the projected winner in the 104th House District race. Rochelle, a Democrat, ran against Republican Josh Shuart. Final vote numbers have not yet been released.

Rochelle confirmed her projected victory in a Facebook post and thanked the residents of Derby and Ansonia for their support.

"Thank you for trusting and supporting me to continue as your state representative," Rochelle said on Facebook. "This campaign has always been about you, the people of our community, the progress we are making, our fight to help everyday people, and to protect hardworking families. Words cannot express my gratitude. My commitment to all of you is strong and I will serve with humility and a deep dedication to you, this community, and our future."

The Connecticut Post reports that Democratic incumbent Jorge Cabrera has declared victory in the 17th Senate District and has defeated Republican challenger Kathy Hoyt. Final vote numbers have not yet been released. (Read more at the Connecticut Post)

In addition to Derby, the 17th Senate District includes parts of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Naugatuck, Hamden and Woodbridge.

In Shelton, Republican state representative candidates Jason Perillo (113th District) and Ben McGorty (122nd District) both ran unopposed.

In Derby, Republican candidate Nicole Klarides-Ditria also ran unopposed in the 105th District.


Eyes are on the gubernatorial race as incumbent Gov. Ned Lamont faces off against Republican nominee Bob Stefanowski and Independent Party candidate Rob Hotaling.

Voters will also get to decide on several state constitutional positions including treasurer, comptroller, attorney general and secretary of the state.

Connecticut has a U.S. Senate seat up for grabs. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is seeking a third term, while Republican Leora Levy hopes to unseat him. All the state’s congressional seats are up for election as well.

All seats in the state General Assembly are up for election this year.

Voters will also get to decide whether the state should allow early voting. The question on the ballot is: "Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to provide for early voting?"
