SHELTON, CT — A Shelton man accused of killing a dog and placing the animal in a garbage bag was recently arrested, police announced this week.

In a news release, Police Sgt. Colin Bitsco said Michael Anziano, 47, of Shelton, was charged with first-degree malicious killing of an animal following an "investigation of reprehensible behavior captured on video."

According to Bitsco, police began investigating the incident after Shelton Animal Control received a tip about video footage showing Anziano admitting to killing a dog.

Anziano was initially held on a $100,000 bond and appeared in court, however court records indicate the bond was later adjusted to $75,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court again later this month, according to Bitsco.

"This type of cruel and criminal behavior will not be tolerated in the city of Shelton," Bitsco said in a news release. "The Shelton Police Department commends the dedicated officers, detectives and animal control whose thorough investigation ensured the prompt arrest and brought the accused to justice."
