Shelton Man Charged in Alleged Easter Assault

The alleged victim has since been released from a hospital after the March 31 incident.

Michael Christopher O'Connell, 21, of Buddington Road, Shelton, is charged with second-degree assault and second-degree breach of the peace following a fight at Cuppy's Cafe on Coram Avenue.

Officers responded to the cafe at 12:30 a.m. March 31 and found a 52-year-old Derby Man on the ground "going in and out of consciousness."

EMS also responded and tended to the patient, who had face and head injuries. He was later treated and released.

O’Connell was still on scene when the initial officers responded, when he was arrested. His bond was set at $50,000 for an appearance in Derby Superior Court.
