Shelton Man Faces Charges after Hit-and-Run Crash
Police say the suspect was identified by the cell phone he left in the car.

A Shelton man is facing charges stemming from a hit-and-run crash in central Greenwich Sunday morning.
The man was driving a 2011 Honda Accord that struck a 2016 Toyota Tundra parked in the 200 block of Davis Avenue shortly after 7 a.m. Jan. 17, according to Greenwich Police.
A witness to the accident called police and said the driver of the Honda was running north on Davis Avenue. Police said they found the driver’s cellphone inside the car and then located him at his girlfriend’s apartment in the nearby Wilbur Peck apartment complex.

The man, identified as Peter Lorthe, 30, of New Street, Shelton, initially denied driving the car, police said. But when officers showed him his cell phone they recovered from the car, he admitted that he “panicked and fled,” according to police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray.
Lorthe was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, evading responsibility and failure to drive right. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Jan. 28 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
