Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti accepted the Republican Town Committee's endorsement for a 12th two-year term Monday night.
The committee gave Lauretti the nod at its convention at the Plumb Memorial Library, in addition to endorsing a slate of mostly incumbents.
Lauretti dismissed the charges of his opponent, Democratic Town Committee Chairman David Gioiello.
Gioiello has accused Lauretti of abusing his power, adding that the mayor cannot be a developer at the same time.
But Lauretti said to look at the results.
"In 1991, we assembled an effective team. We did what we told people we would do and we did it beyond expectations. The results really speak for themselves," Lauretti said.
He urged voters to "stay the course."
Gioiello is repeating charges he made while running for mayor eight years ago, Lauretti noted.
"I don't feel I have to respond to someone who hasn't accomplished anything," Lauretti said of Gioiello.
