As students return to schools for the start of the new academic year, police have shared some back to school safety tips for residents.
SHELTON, CT — As students return to schools for the start of the new academic year, police have shared some back to school safety tips for residents.
Shelton students officially returned for the first day of school on Aug. 26, according to the district calendar.
In a recent Facebook post, police shared the following back to school safety tips:

- Stay alert near school zones. Slow down, watch for children and follow all traffic signals.
- Use crosswalks and sidewalks.
- Pack a healthy lunch. Keep your energy up with balanced meals and plenty of water.
- Buddy up for safety. Walk or bike with a friend to and from school for added security.
- Charge your devices. Make sure your phone and other devices are fully charged in case of emergencies.
"Let’s make this [school] year safe and successful," police wrote on Facebook.
