Shelton Small Business Spotlight: Taylor Made Fitness and Training

This week's business spotlight features what the owner describes as "Shelton's first boutique fitness studio."

Every business has a story worth sharing with the community. And that’s the belief behind this exciting series — to shine the spotlight on all our favorite local businesses, and to learn a little about the ones we may not know that well.

  • Business: Taylor Made Fitness and Training
  • Owners: Patricia Taylor and Renee Daconto

How did you come up with the name?

We came up with our business name Taylor-Made Fitness by not only utilizing Patty’s last name but also to emphasize our belief that no fitness regime is “one size fits all”. At TMF, we are able to tailor the workout for each individual member based on their fitness history and goals. We offer a variety of classes, small group training and personal training to be able to meet the needs of all individuals.

Why start a business in this town?

We started a business in Shelton because it is where Patty grew up and began her career as a fitness trainer. She is well known in the town for what she does, the clients she helps and the charities she gives back too. We believe that Shelton is a unique town because it still has that small town feel even with the larger corporate park and companies in the area.

Briefly, what business are you in?

We are in the business of selling results. We have found a niche in the market by paying attention to details, customer service, quality training and results. We understand that there are many gyms to choose when it comes to your fitness journey, so we created an environment that someone who needed attention to detail and quality can come. We have set ourselves apart by creating Shelton’s first boutique fitness studio.

What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?

Our most difficult challenge thus far in our journey is to reach more people. We have a solid foundation of loyal members who continue to see the value in what we do on a daily basis but we struggle to get our name out there in the community. With many fitness choices within a 5 mile radius of our studio and living in a small town, it’s challenging to break into the market where many are already members of other gyms.

What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?

I don’t recall if I had one favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening, because every single day I’m proud of what i do and my members that I am privileged to help. Being able to watch people give 110 percent each day and be so grateful to TMF for providing an environment that they can feel challenged yet comfortable is a gift.

How does your business give back or get involved in the community?

The foundation of our business is based on giving back. We run numerous fundraisers for teams/organization in our community, as well as personal fundraisers for medical help. We are always contributing for raffle prizes for organizations such as Valley Goes Pink. Patty also ran 2 marathons to raise money for a Shelton youth battling cancer. Taylor Made Fitness also forms teams for local running and biking races that raise money for a good cause.cleardot.gif
