GARBAGE PICKUP

Committee member Stanley Kudej: "I've received a number of calls about garbage bins being left out in the street 24/7."

Right now, there is no ordinance dictating when trash bins should be removed from the street, but Committee members are looking to write one that would mandate residents put out bins the night before garbage pickup and take them inside the next morning.

Committee member Lynn Farrell said the area of Buddington Road to English Lane is of particular concern.

Committee Chairman Eric McPherson: "The other side of this problem is downtown apartment buildings. Garbage is being put out four or five days in advance of their pickup, and a lot of it is in bags, not cans."

McPherson suggested that because downtown has a lot of landlords overseeing multi-family units, the Committee should contact them and schedule a meeting "to make sure they understand the policies and that their tenants comply."

Both McPherson and Farrell advocate "a substantial fine" for offenders of a new ordinance concerning garbage pickup.

NORTH PETERS LANE

There has been some debate as to where Shelton ends and Stratford begins on North Peters Lane. The Shelton section will lose the "North" and be called Peters Lane.
