SRH-MS Chapter Members Celebrate DAR Day of Service
DAR Day of Service celebrates the 134th anniversary of the founding of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Members of the Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated the 134th anniversary of the founding of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution at the Homes for the Brave, Madaras Home for Women Veterans on October 22. The Madaras Home for Women Veterans is Connecticut’s first and only community-based transitional home exclusively for Women Veterans experiencing homelessness and their young children.
To honor and support those who serve this nation, thirteen SRH-MS Chapter members provided a home cooked meal for the female veterans. The menu included spaghetti casserole, salad, garlic bread, and a seasonal dessert consisting of goblin cupcakes, brownies, cookies and drinks. Disposable plates, cups and cutlery were also provided so that the women would be freed from clean up. The meal was delivered by SRH-MS Chapter Regent Jeaneen Buchanan and Cheryl Dixon. Nancy Carrion, Program Manager at Madaras Home, said that the women would be delighted with the dinner.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. Any woman, 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible.
