Thomas A. Cox - Obituary

Retired Educator - Ansonia High School, Class of 1968

Thomas Alan Cox, age 74 of Shelton, died peacefully on July 10, 2025 at the Apple Rehab-Hewitt Memorial Health Care Center. Born in Derby on December 30, 1950, he was the son of the late Alfred and Mary Fisher Cox. Tom was raised in Seymour and moved to Ansonia in 1966. He graduated from Ansonia High School, Class of 1968; earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Southern Connecticut State College and a Master of Arts from Central Connecticut State University and also received his Sixth Year Teaching Certificate. Mr. Cox taught grammar education at Lincoln-Hayes School of Ansonia for three years. He then taught grammar school education for the Portland, CT public school system, prior to his 30-year tenure at Naugatuck High School, until his retirement in 2015. Mr. Cox was a Third-Degree Master Mason and member of the Ansonia Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his children, Erin Longin and her husband, Todd of Boston, MA and Brian Cox and his husband, Christopher Cunetto of Washington, DC; three grandsons, his former spouse, Sherry Nerreau of Ansonia; as well as several dear friends including Rick DuFresne and Quentin Osiecki of Ansonia. In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by a brother, David Cox.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held at 6:30 PM. Private interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Online condolences may be made at www.wakeleememorial.com.
