Thursday, August 25: Girl Scouts, An Artful Affair

  1. We've been pretty spoiled with nice weather all week. Well, that ends today. For the forecast, courtesy of the National Weather Service: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog before 7 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 81 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
  2. Girl Scout registration night will be Wednesday, September 14, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. in the lobby, 675 Constitution Blvd. North. Girls in grades K through 12, as well as adults who are interested in Girl Scouts, are welcome to come talk to volunteers and register.   3. summer concert series is being extended a week due to a rain date. Don't miss out on the last of summer fun! The Parks & Rec Dept. have added a show on Wednesday, August 31 featuring The Bernadettes. This is a make-up concert for the rain out on June 23.
  4. An Artful Affair is in the final planning stages and you are needed! Join The Valley Arts Council, The Valley Chamber of Commerce, The Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley and Spector Furniture and Home Décor in this creative fund raising event to benefit The Valley Arts Council and The Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley. An Artful Affair will take place on Friday, October 14th, 5 - 9 p.m. The location is the Spector Furniture’s spacious showroom located at 385 Main Street, Ansonia, CT. Any artist in the Valley area who would like to display their work in this juried fund raising event please contact Steve DiRienzo of The Valley Arts Council at 203-516-0822. (Space is limited). Donations in any amount will be gladly accepted.   5. FYI: There will be road closures this coming Sunday, August 25 due to the 10K Sunset Run for the Warriors road race. Several streets in the Huntington section will be temporarily closed to accommodate the people involved in the event. The race will begin at Huntington Street and Roaring Brook Lane and continue onto Church Street, Nichols Avenue, Isinglass Road, and back onto Huntington Street.
