VCA Shoreline Hospital Hosts 'Summer Pet Safety Day'

The 'Summer Pet Safety Day' will take place on Jun. 11 and will aim to educate owners of weather changes that affect pets.

From VCA Shoreline Emergency Hospital: We are excited to be teaming up with VCA Shoreline Emergency Hospital in Shelton, one of only 8 Trauma Level I Veterinary Centers, for a very important “Summer Pet Safety Day” on Sunday, June 11th, from 11:00am – 3:00pm. This is the time of year when the weather changes rapidly, and the day can go from cool to sweltering in a matter of hours, and unfortunately that can present major dangers for our furry family members. Heatstroke to hot pavement burns, allergies and other health issues, and rapid dehydration, all make for hazardous conditions if owners aren’t fully prepared, and that’s what we hope to help prevent.

The non-profit, all-volunteer, Connecticut Emergency Animal Response Service (EARS) works closely with VCA Shoreline and other hospitals in the region to provide rapid response to medical issues affecting pets, and it becomes a busy time as the weather gets hotter. There are, however, many ways to help prevent these issues with just a little bit of knowledge and preparation for owners. This event is free and open to anyone. Both EARS and VCA Staff will be on hand to provide answers to questions, informational handouts, and free pet safety giveaways such as collapsible water bowls.

For more information please contact Jon Nowinski at jon@earsct.org or jon.nowinski@vca.com, or reach him at the VCA Shoreline hospital at (203) 929-8600.
