Weapons Ban Proposed for Shelton Public Facilities and Parks

The hearing is April 23 at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium.

Weapons would be banned from city facilities, schools and parks under a proposed "weapons-free ordinance."

It was proposed by Alderman John "Jack" Finn.

"It shall be unlawful for any person to bring into or have in their possession in a city building, Board of Education school facility or grounds, park or open space any weapons," according to the proposal. "No person shall possess illegal firearms, and and no person shall carry openly or conceal a firearm of any description, including bow, crossbow, or traditional BB or pellet-firing air gun in a public building, Board of Education school facility or grounds, open space or parks, other than a police officer or security officer."

A first violation would carry a penalty of $250 and $250 for each subsequent offense.

A public hearing will take place April 23 at 7 p.m. in City Hall Auditorium.
