Wed., Sept. 28: Police Union Food Drive, Oh Those Sugar Blues!
Hey, it's hump day! There are some pretty cool things listed today, so I wouldn't skip over this one if I were you!

- Though temperatures won't dip past 65, expect the threat of light rain throught the day and evening. The National Weather Service reports that during the day there is a slight chance of showers, (chance of precipitation is 20 percent) and areas of fog before 11 a.m. Otherwise, cloudy skies with a high near 70 degrees. At night, a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 62. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
- From Mary Beth White on Shelton Patch's Facebook: The Union will be holding a food drive this Sunday at Shelton Day (Oct. 2). Non-perishable foods and cash donations will be accepted from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. All donations received will benefit the Food Bank. The Shelton High School Food Bank was started to help provide assistance to families with children who attend any school within the Shelton school system. Let's join together to help our neighbors in need.
- Canterbury Tales, Frankenstein, To Kill a Mockingbird -- All three are among dozens of books that had at one point been banned. Today, head to the for their . Celebrate Banned Books Week and the library's fall theme: “Laugh!” by writing a joke or witty saying about our Freedom to Read. Three age categories are available: up to 9 years old, 10 – 13 years old, and 14 – 18 years old. All entries will be posted and a winner will be voted on during the event day.
- Oh, those sugar blues! Are you constantly craving sweets and want to understand why? Our desire for sweets goes back to our childhood and many times is related to our emotions more than hunger! Gain control and learn how to prepare healthy "sweets"
that you can use to satisfy those cravings and eat better. Participants will join Mindy Kannon, a nutrition coach and personal chef, in tasting samples, sharing recipes and a spirited discussion.
