Additional Volunteers Needed for Summer Concerts at Performing Arts Center

More volunteers are needed for the summer concerts at the Performing Arts Center.

That was one of the details in a report from Performing Arts Center board chairman Bob Hensley to the Board of Selectmen Monday night.

There's a great crew of volunteers but there are many tasks, he said.

“It takes a lot of hands,” Hensley said.

Hensley told selectmen that feedback was generally positive from the recent Harry Connick Jr. concert in town, which had a paid audience of about 4,200.

There are some tweaks needed, such as better flow at the busy concession stands, but all in all the board, the promoter and the band were pleased with the show, Hensley said.

“They thought it was a great venue,” he said.

This year the board is working with Premier Concerts and The Bushnell on a summer series that also includes shows by Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell on July 16 and Peter Frampton on Aug. 7.

The center also remains home to Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s Talcott Mountain Music Festival Summer Music Series. The recent Celebrate America concert was highly successful with about 8,000 attending, Hensley said.

Remaining shows include Sinatra under the Stars on July 12, the Movie music of John Williams on July 19 and a Rolling Stones Tribute on July 26.
