Bear Killed After Being Hit By Vehicle In Simsbury: Police

The incident on Monday was one of many run-ins with bears reported in Simsbury this year.

SIMSBURY, CT — Local police confirmed Tuesday that a bear was struck and killed by a vehicle in Simsbury Monday evening.

According to the Simsbury Police Department, the bear was hit in the area of 376 Bushy Hill Road at about 5:49 p.m.

Police said there were no injuries to the operator or passengers in the vehicle, but the bear was killed.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was called to the scene to remove the bear carcass, police said.

Simsbury has been a major hotspot for bear activity in Connecticut, with bears particularly active in the weeks leading up to winter hibernation.
