The Friends of the Simsbury Public Library offers Great Decisions Program

This program, "Great Decisions" is America's largest discussion program on world affairs.

This exciting program offered by the Friend of the Simsbury Public Library, “Great Decisions” is a nationally-based program run by the Foreign Policy Association. The FPA selects eight current event topics for local groups to discuss. The Friends of the Simbury Public Library supports two groups that participate in this program.

The 2026 topics are: Trump 2.0 Foreign Policy, Trump Tariffs and the World Economy, U.S. China Relations, Risk of Nuclear Proliferation, Ukraine and European Security, Multilateral Institutions in a Changing World, U.S. Engagement of Africa, and the Future of Human Rights and International Law.

A summary of each topic is contained in a program guide and consists of 10-12 pages of background material as well as optional references. Several questions are also provided which can serve to frame discussion. The guides are available for purchase. A volunteer leads every session, and group members are encouraged to participate to whatever degree they feel comfortable.
