Horizons at Westminster Nominated for Prestigious ImpaCT Award by United Way and FOX61

For the third year, United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut and FOX61 are honoring individuals, groups and organizations who make a significant contribution to health care, housing, financial empowerment and/or education in Connecticut. A record breaking 200 nominations for ImpaCT Awards were submitted by the public through July 7, 2025. An impartial judging committee reviewed award nominations and narrowed down three finalists per award category.   

Horizons at Westminster School is proud to announce its nomination for a 2025 ImpaCT Award in the Impactful Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Category. This award is given to an individual or a company that has a demonstrated track record of helping or working with underrepresented communities here in Connecticut.   The award winner will be announced at the 3rd Annual ImpaCT Awards Ceremony on October 22, 2025 at Hartford Marriott Downtown. Additionally, the ImpaCT Awards Ceremony will be broadcasted on FOX61 and will be streamed on FOX61+ in a one-hour special and available on FOX61+ to stream.

Started in 2018, Horizons at Westminster School leverages a unique public-private school partnership to close opportunity gaps for underrepresented students from Hartford. Horizons provides a tuition-free, six-week summer program that offers a space for Hartford students to learn and grow. The program is designed to prevent summer learning loss by providing 200 hours of academic instruction and enrichment opportunities in addition to offering year-long programming held on the campuses of Westminster School in Simsbury and Moylan School in Hartford. The objective at Horizons at Westminster is to foster long-term partnerships with students, families and schools in Hartford by retaining our students and staff each summer and sustaining connection through school year programming initiatives.

This summer, Horizons had 135 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade and hosted the first-ever 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony marking a significant milestone for both the students and the program. As these students move forward into high school, Horizons at Westminster is excited to announce the expansion of programming to include high school support. The high school program will provide year-round academic mentoring, college and career readiness, enrichment opportunities, and personalized support through high school graduation.


Horizons at Westminster is an affiliate of the Horizons National Program, a network of over 70 programs at independent schools and universities across the United States. The program's history reflects a long-term, high-quality commitment to closing the achievement gap and supporting youth development for underrepresented K-12 students and their families.
