SIMSBURY, CT — Local police are warning motorists to be patient and careful as massive fundraising motorcycle/vehicle cruises based in Farmington will wind their way through Simsbury on Saturday.

Saturday is the headline event of The Hometown Foundation's "Dread Ride Experience" weekend — a three-day festival from Friday to Sunday to benefit the foundation's charities.

That event will feature a "Dream Cruise" of classic cars/trucks as well as a "Dread Ride" featuring motorcycles, Simsbury police said.

While it originates from the Farmington Polo Club, Simsbury police said both convoys will go right through Simsbury, requiring a bit of patience from local drivers on Saturday, especially late in the afternoon.

Simsbury police released details about the motorcycle ride, which leaves Farmington at 11 a.m. Saturday en route to a 40-mile trek.

The Simsbury PD said the massive motorcycle procession will enter Simsbury from Avon via Nod Road, then turn east onto Hartford Road (Route 185), north onto Hopmeadow Street (Route 10), then west onto Stratton Brook Road, and then west onto Route 309, where it will exit Simsbury into Canton.

Sometime that same day, police said, a convoy of 200 vehicles will enter Simsbury via Route 167 at Route 44.

The vehicle convoy, police said, will go north on Bushy Hill Road (Route 167); east onto Latimer Lane; north onto Hopmeadow Street (Route 10); then east on Hartford Road (Route 185), and South on Nod Road.

Should you come into contact with one of these convoys, police said 20- to 30-minute delays should be expected, especially at about 4:15 and 5:30 p.m.

"Both of these events are expected to cause significant traffic delays in Simsbury on the dates and times listed above," wrote police.

"We encourage everyone to plan ahead to avoid the traffic and thank you for your understanding and support of this generous organization."

The Cheshire-based Hometown Foundation is a nonprofit specializing in causes that help military veterans, animal rights and people with special needs, among other causes.
