Organizers Pleased with 2013 Whitewater Triple Crown
Event held in Tariffville Gorge for 5th Year — first time in July
While this year marked the 5th Whitewater Triple Crown in Tariffville, it was the first time the event was held in July, rather than April.
Holding the event in the height of summer held some risks, such as potential low water, but as luck would have it, conditions were great this past weekend, said organizer Andy Kuhlberg of Canton.
"I thought this was our best year ever," Kuhlberg said. "We were very happy with the results."
Kuhlberg said the event will be held next year but added that he is not sure if it will be again in the summer.
The event, which takes place in the Farmington River's Tariffville Gorge through East Granby and the Tariffville section of Simsbury, includes men's and women's wild water races, slalom and freestyle events. Patch was able to catch the final rounds of the men's freestyle on Sunday, some photos of which can be seen above.
