Proposed Simsbury Zoning Change Aims to Ease Elderly Housing Requirements

On April 15 the Simsbury Zoning Commission will seek public input regarding a proposed change to town regulations that would eliminate a 5-year waiting period before a homeowner can build an accessory housing unit for an elderly family member.

According to the proposal posted on the town of Simsbury website, the amendment is being proposed because "all too often it is a sudden health issue that necessitates the accessory apartment for an elderly person, and the 'five year' requirement precludes their ability to benefit from this option."

The public hearing is scheduled for April 15 at 7 p.m. in the main meeting room at Simsbury Town Hall.
