Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Is This Weekend In Simsbury

It is open to residents of Simsbury, Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, and Suffield.

SIMSBURY, CT — Residents from six towns are invited to come to Simsbury this Saturday and safely dispose of their household hazardous waste.

A household hazardous waste collection is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, Simsbury.

The event will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It is open to residents of Simsbury, Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, and Suffield.

"Staff will guide you as to where to go and how to dispose of the items you bring. Proof of residency will be required," wrote event organizers.

"These collections are for items that cannot go into the regular trash, keeping hazardous materials from being deposited into the landfill."

Examples of accepted items include:

• Common household batteries

• Fluorescent and CFL bulbs

• Items containing mercury (thermometers, thermostats, etc.)

• Household chemicals

• Used motor oil
