Rep. Hampton Co-Sponsers New Tax Relief Bill
The bill proposes to eliminate the income tax on social security income and provide relief for seniors.
From The Office of Rep. Hampton: Simsbury's State Representative John Hampton is pleased to co-sponsor a bill to eliminate the income tax on social security income.
“It’s enough that seniors that have paid into a retirement system with wages that were taxed,” Rep. Hampton said. “We need to continue our efforts to make Connecticut a more attractive place to live, work and retire.”
House Bill #5587 -- An Act Concerning Social Security Tax Exemptions For Seniorswill exempt all seniors’ Social Security income from the state personal income tax. Currently, seniors who have an adjusted gross income of $50,000 (single) or $60,000 (joint) and above pay income tax on 25% of their Social Security income.
