First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis after 6 years on the Board of Selectmen and 4 years as First Selectman, after receiving the list of questions, had to read from her prepared notes and was not comfortable to explain to the public what she did for the 4 years she was First Selectman.

Wendy Mackstutis has shown throughout the years, in her position as First Selectman, that she is a control freak, insecure when conducting the meetings and unable to speak extemporaneously.

Democrat First Selectman Wendy Mackstutis has had the Democratic members of the Board of Selectmen meet in a caucus prior to meetings to control the dialog of the agenda items.

Residents should be aware that some members of the prior Board of Selectmen did not run for re-election due to the failed leadership of First Selectman Wendy Macstutits.

First Selectman Wendy Maclstutis has tried to control Public Audience with a stop watch, controlling the time of each person and hitting the gavel while interrupting the speech after 5 minutes, without prior notice.

The adoption of the Rules of Procedure is unconstitutional as stated by the ACLU as it limits people’s First Amendment right to Free Speech.

At the September 24, 2025 Board of Selectmen meeting First Selectman Wendy Macstutis admonished me for saying her name incorrectly as it was another unacceptable annoyance she could not tolerate.

As a result of her concern of my diction, I have decided to give her a nickname, Wendy Mackstupid, which is easier to pronounce and would eliminate her dialog following public audience.

The Board of Selectmen at the August 11, 2025 meeting adopted a Proclamation Proclaiming September as Suicide Prevention Month.

A grieving mother, hearing about the Proclamation on Suicide Prevention came before the Board of Selectmen at the September 24, 2025 meeting to share her issues resulting in her child’s suicide.

First Selectman Wendy Mackstupid stated that the mother had 5 minutes to discuss her concerns about suicide prevention and institutional failures.

The mother asserted that the lack of support services when her child went to college led to her suicide.

The mother gave a detailed accounting of the lack of support services from the Board of Education during her child’s transition and lack of communication with the mother.

When the child went off to college, the mother asserts that there was a lack of support services and communication leading to her child’s suicide.

First Selectman Wendy Mackstupid was more interested in the 5-minute rule than listening to a grieving mother in stress.

The mother was told her time was up without any concern about the family losing a child to suicide.

The mother left the meeting in what appeared to be total disillusionment after sharing her story without anyone caring about a grieving mother addressing the suicide of her child.

Timing was more important than the content of the speech.

The mother posted her concerns that stated: “It took Wendy an entire week to fi gure out that silencing a grieving mother mid-sentence might look a little… bad. So, she mailed me a letter. Not only with an apology (very on-brand, very bureaucratic) , but also with the inspired advice that try my luck at the Board of Education. Translation: Take your grief somewhere else-we’ve got more important things to do here.

And the Board of Education? Even more generous. They allow three minutes. Apparently in this town, the life and death of a child should fit neatly into the length of a voicemail greeting. Five minutes was clearly far too decadent.”

A letter from Wendy to the mother explains the cut-off after 4 minutes states, “I wanted to apologize for cutting you off at our meeting last week. This has happened before – the timer going off but leftover from the prior speaker. I thought it was the current timer. But let you continue thinking it was past the 5-minute marker. And then thought it was well over so cut you off.”

The letter continues with a bland apology… too little, too late.

Insensitivity to concerns of residents should be a disqualifier for a First Selectman.

It is time for a change in leadership.

Vote for a candidate that is compassionate and caring and willing to listen and learn from the public.

Public Audience should not be timed as a tool to bully the public but to embrace ideas and concerns.

Our elected officials are our representatives.

If they do not serve the public, they should be disqualified by the voters by removing them from office.

Your Vote Counts!
